Supreme Court to Hear Sher Bahadur Deuba's Writ Petition against Arrest Warrant

May 25, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on a petition filed by former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba challenging the arrest warrant issued in his name. The hearing will take place before a joint bench comprising Justices Mahesh Sharma Poudel and Nityananda Pandey.

Earlier, a bench led by Justice Meghraj Poudel had directed the relevant parties to appear for a preliminary discussion on whether to grant an interim order regarding Deuba’s petition.

Deuba’s side argues that the arrest authorization issued by the Department of Asset Clean-up Investigation through the Kathmandu District Court is beyond its legal jurisdiction. They also claim the case falls under the jurisdiction of the Special Court.

The petition alleges that the arrest warrant was issued without proper jurisdiction from the Kathmandu District Court. Deuba's legal team has stated they are willing to cooperate with the investigation, are prepared to disclose the sources of their assets, and believe there is no need for his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Asset Clean-up Investigation Department has initiated procedures to issue a Red Corner Notice against the Deuba couple, but Interpol has not yet made any decision regarding this matter.
