PM's focus is on first 100 days agenda for now, no immediate plans for foreign travel: Government Spokesperson Pokharel

May 25, Kathmandu - The Government of Nepal is currently prioritizing the execution of its initial 100-day plan, with no immediate plans for the Prime Minister to undertake any international visits, according to government spokesperson and Minister of Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel.

In an interview with media personnel, Pokharel emphasized that the Prime Minister’s primary focus remains on the government’s early-phase objectives. He clarified that recent discussions about the Prime Minister potentially visiting India or other countries, as well as the foreign trips of the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), are not linked to the Prime Minister’s schedule.

“Currently, the Prime Minister is not planning to visit any country, including India. His attention is solely on the government’s work plan and priorities for the first 100 days,” Pokharel stated. “The President’s international visit is a private or party matter and has no connection with the Prime Minister.”

Addressing the preparations for the upcoming budget, Pokharel mentioned that the Ministry of Finance is actively working on the budget process. Most ministries have already submitted their plans and programs, and the budget formulation is progressing systematically.

On the tightened security at Singha Durbar (the government’s administrative complex), Pokharel described the measures as part of a “structured process” to streamline entry procedures. “We have established new protocols to make entry and exit more organized and accessible for both the public and staff, specifying which gates to use and at what times,” he explained.

Regarding the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, Pokharel said there has been no specific discussion in the Council of Ministers about whether the Prime Minister will deliver a speech. However, he added that the Prime Minister would address the nation at an appropriate time, if deemed necessary.
