Prime Minister Balen Shah to Appear in Parliament Within a Week

May 26, Kathmandu - Kabindra Burlakoti, Chief Whip of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has announced that Prime Minister Balen Shah will attend the Parliament within a week. Making the statement during a special session with the Speaker of the House, Burlakoti clarified that the Prime Minister is expected to be present to address ongoing demands from opposition parties.

“I have also spoken with the Prime Minister’s Secretariat,” Burlakoti stated. “The Prime Minister will come to the House. I will inform you within a week’s time.”

Opposition parties have been consistently pressuring the government, demanding the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament and responses to contemporary issues.

Reacting to the news, Padma Aryal, Deputy Leader of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party, expressed strong disapproval of the ruling side’s stance. She accused the government of not adhering to the understanding reached in the Parliamentary Procedure Consultative Committee and emphasized that Parliament should not become a mere platform for praise or propaganda.

Other parliamentary leaders also shared their views on the Prime Minister’s anticipated appearance. Ram Prasad Hamal, a Member of Parliament from CPN (UML), called for a clear ruling from the Speaker regarding the Prime Minister’s attendance, based on the information provided by the ruling party’s chief whip.

Kushbu Oli, Chief Whip of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, urged the ruling side to strictly follow the consensus reached within the Parliamentary Procedure Committee. Meanwhile, Dhruva Raj Rai of the Labour and Culture Party appealed for restraint among members to uphold the dignity of Parliament, emphasizing the importance of listening to opposition voices and criticisms.

Following the government's assurance of the Prime Minister’s attendance, opposition parties appeared somewhat subdued, signaling a potential easing of tensions in the House.
