May 29, Kathmandu - The government has unveiled a comprehensive and ambitious infrastructure development plan to revolutionize the country’s sports sector. Prioritizing sports in the upcoming budget, the administration has announced the construction of state-of-the-art international cricket stadiums in eight major cities across Nepal. Expected to be completed within the next five years, these new venues aim to boost Nepalese cricket’s professional growth and facilitate hosting of international tournaments.
In addition to cricket, the government is also focusing on elevating football standards nationwide. As part of this initiative, ten existing football grounds will be upgraded with modern floodlights over the next three years, enabling the organization of night matches. To ensure a better spectator experience, each upgraded stadium will have a minimum seating capacity of 8,000.
Furthermore, the government has revealed plans to build cutting-edge multipurpose indoor stadiums in seven key cities—Biratnagar, Lahan, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Birtamod, Surkhet, and Dhangadhi—within the next three years. These indoor venues will accommodate at least 2,000 spectators each, marking a significant step towards creating a world-class environment for athletes and sports enthusiasts alike.
With these strategic developments, Nepal is poised to enter a new era of modern sports infrastructure, fostering talent and elevating the nation’s presence on the international sports stage.
