Govt Extends Deadline for Security Mechanism Study and Announces Key Appointments Amid Border Dispute Clarifications

Jun 02, Kathmandu - The Nepali government has decided to extend the deadline for the study and recommendation on security arrangements related to the incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24. The decision was made based on the report submitted by the commission formed to investigate the events, with the extension granted to the committee responsible for studying and advising on security measures.

During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting at Singh Durbar, Prime Minister's Office spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokhrel informed that the study committee’s term has been extended by 45 days to thoroughly analyze the security arrangements mentioned in the commission’s report.

Additionally, the government appointed Balabhadra Basnet as the Chairperson of the Land Problem Resolution Committee. The committee's members include Amir Prasad Neupane, Padmaniti Soti, and Dr. Rona Shrestha, as announced by Minister Pokhrel.

On the diplomatic front, Pokhrel reiterated Nepal’s commitment to resolving border issues with India through long-term diplomatic discussions. He clarified that the Prime Minister’s remarks about Nepal “encroaching” on Indian territory have been misinterpreted and emphasized the importance of reviewing parliamentary records to understand the context accurately.

Furthermore, the government is set to formally process the findings of the Human Rights Commission’s report on the Gen-Z movement, with plans to take necessary steps once the official document is received.
