Jun 02, Kathmandu - In a bid to ensure timely and effective progress of ongoing economic and developmental projects, Nepal and China have agreed to accelerate their collaborative efforts following a review of the current status.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the third meeting of the mechanism established to facilitate the implementation of joint projects and programs under Nepal-China cooperation was held in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The meeting was co-chaired by Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current status of various projects under the Nepal-China economic and development cooperation framework. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and reached an understanding to prioritize and expedite key projects to ensure their swift and effective completion.
Senior officials from relevant ministries and government agencies participated from the Nepali side, while senior officers from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu attended from the Chinese side. The mechanism was established in June 2018 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries. It serves as a platform for regular review, problem identification, and coordination to resolve issues related to bilateral projects.
In recent years, cooperation between Nepal and China has expanded across infrastructure, economic development, and capacity enhancement sectors. The meeting is seen as a vital step toward making project implementation more effective and strengthening bilateral collaboration.
