Jun 06, Kathmandu - The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) staged a five-hour protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday in protest against the leaked question paper of the controversial NEET exam in India.
Party founder Abhijit Deepke has announced the agitation demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Addressing the protest, founder Abhijit has demanded the Education Minister to resign immediately. He has given Minister Pradhan a five-day ultimatum to resign and has warned that he will again hold a massive protest at Jantar Mantar next Saturday if his demand is not met.
Although the CJP was allowed to protest until 5 pm on Saturday, founder Abhijit and social activist Sonam Wangchuk left the protest site at around 3 pm.
Today's protest ended with their exit. Party founder Abhijit had arrived in Delhi from the US on Saturday morning. He had reached the protest site directly from the airport.
During the protest, he was holding a copy of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's autobiography and the Constitution of India. Renowned social activist Sonam Wangchuk also expressed solidarity with the protest.
Along with him, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka was also present. Dixit Ranka returned to India from London only last year from IIT Kanpur. He commented that this irregularity in the educational sector has played a role in the future of students.
In view of the protest, the Delhi Police had tightened security arrangements. Security checks were increased at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the main railway station, bus stations and border crossings in Delhi.
More than 1,000 police personnel were deployed at designated places for security. In addition, the police had taken special precautions to maintain peace and security in sensitive areas.
Police have taken six people into custody during the protest. Police said that they were taken into custody as a precaution after receiving information about possible clashes or tension between the protesters and the opposing group.
Abhijeet reiterated his stance and said, "The Cockroach Janata Party is adamant on its demand, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign within 5 days. If our demand is not met, another strong protest will be held at Jantar Mantar on June 13." He had earlier warned of a nationwide protest if the minister did not resign.
