Activists Demonstrate at the Central Office of the RSP

Jun 07, Kathmandu - Workers from Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City have staged a protest at the central office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The workers staged a sit-in at the central office on Sunday, demanding transparency after a dispute arose over the election results of the party's municipal convention.

According to the protesting workers, Umashankar Rauniyar was elected president of the Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City with 124 votes. They say that the dispute began after the notice to hold a re-election was issued after the oath-taking of the elected office bearers was completed.

The protesters have claimed that the Madhesh Province Committee issued a notice for the re-election saying that the 50 plus 1 majority was not reached. They have alleged that the decision is against the party's statute and democratic process. They have said that the decision to hold a re-election after the election has been concluded and the winner has been declared is unacceptable.

The workers have demanded a clear answer and a fair decision from the party leadership, saying that the election was canceled through social media without any official letterhead or signature. They have also demanded that transparency be maintained in the convention process being conducted by the party and that decisions be made in accordance with the statute.
