Jun 07, Kathmandu - The Koshi Province government has indicated that it will reconsider the two-day public holiday that has been granted in a week. Chief Minister of the province Hikmat Kumar Karki has called for citizens' opinions and suggestions on this issue through social media.
Chief Minister Karki has indicated that the current five-day working system has not yielded the expected results and has indicated that a six-day working week system may be implemented again in ministries and subordinate offices. He said that the old system of having a holiday only on Saturdays may be appropriate and said that he wanted to know the people's opinion.
He wrote on social media, "What would happen if the ministries and subordinate offices of Koshi Province were to operate six days a week again and implement a system of giving a holiday only on Saturdays? The five-day working week neither provided enough working days, nor did it achieve significant achievements in cost and fuel savings. I expect your suggestions on this matter."
Keeping in mind the pressure on fuel supply, the federal government had decided to grant two public holidays in a week and keep office hours from 9 am to 5 pm in its cabinet meeting on Chaitra 22.
However, dissatisfaction has been expressed from various sectors towards the arrangement. Complaints are increasing that service recipients are having difficulty accessing government services, OPD services in hospitals are being affected, and there are problems in managing the study-teaching schedule in schools and colleges.
In this context, the Koshi Province government has re-reviewed the effectiveness of the two-day holiday and initiated a process to collect suggestions for necessary decisions.
