Jun 18, Kathmandu - Switzerland confirmed on Thursday that “initial talks” to implement the US-Iran deal to end the Middle East war are planned to take place on Friday at a Swiss resort complex in Bern.
“The United States and Iran, as well as mediators Pakistan, Qatar and other interested countries, will meet tomorrow in Burgenstock for “initial talks” to implement the deal,” the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The announcement lifted the veil of uncertainty surrounding the meeting, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday at a luxury hotel complex in Burgenstock, near Lucerne in central Switzerland. The meeting was initially scheduled for Tuesday. The meeting was seen as a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran to end the regional war that began with a US-Israeli strike on February 28.
US President Donald Trump signed the memorandum of understanding at a dinner near Paris on Wednesday, and Iranian President Masoud Pjesekian signed it electronically from Tehran. Iran's chief negotiator in Switzerland, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and US Vice President JD Vance were expected to participate in discussions to work out the details of the agreement.
