Jun 19, Kathmandu - Brazilian football superstar Neymar will miss his second consecutive World Cup match, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced Thursday. The federation stated that Neymar will not travel to Philadelphia for the Group C match against Haiti due to ongoing recovery from a right ankle injury.
According to the CBF, Neymar's injury has not fully healed, and he will remain in New Jersey to undergo final stages of treatment and rehabilitation. The 34-year-old forward, Brazil's all-time top scorer with 79 goals—surpassing Pelé's record of 77—continues to focus on his recovery at team training facilities.
Neymar, who suffered the injury during a match against Santos on May 17, has been sidelined since. He made his first return to the training ground on Tuesday, engaging in physical fitness exercises, and participated in parts of team training on Wednesday, receiving warm applause from teammates upon his return.
However, he has yet to join full training sessions with the squad since arriving with the injury. Despite this, Neymar remains committed to his goal of playing in his fourth World Cup.
The Brazilian team, aiming for a sixth World Cup title, began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Morocco. Neymar, who debuted in the 2014 World Cup hosted in Brazil, was included in the squad by coach Carlo Ancelotti, sparking widespread debate in the football community about his selection amid injury concerns.
