Over 2.6 Million Farmers Registered in Nationwide Farmer Census System

Jun 25, Kathmandu - The government’s farmer registration initiative has successfully enrolled over 2.6 million farmers across the country. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests, and Environment has undertaken a systematic process to register farmers based on land details and agricultural productivity.

According to Sanjeev Pandit, an official at the Agriculture Information Centre, the registration is being carried out electronically and farmers are being categorized into four tiers to facilitate targeted benefits and services. The four categories include subsistence farmers, small farmers, medium-sized farmers, and large-scale farmers. Following classification, farmers will be issued identification cards.

The government aims to provide subsidies, chemical fertilizers, seeds, grants, and other services based on these identification cards. As per the 2078 Agricultural Census, there are approximately 4.13 million farmers registered, with efforts underway to include the remaining 1.5 million farmers yet to be registered.

Farmers are also encouraged to register their names in the system for inclusion in this comprehensive database. The registration process involved coordination with local authorities nationwide to ensure proper verification and accurate data collection.
