Jun 26, Kathmandu - Nepal Dairy Association has forecasted that approximately 7 Million 500 thousand liters of yogurt will be consumed across the country on the occasion of this year's Rakshya Bandhan and Paddy Day, celebrated on Asadha 15.
With the aim of promoting indigenous production and preserving cultural heritage, the association has set a target of conducting around one billion rupees in business transactions this year.
In Nepal, Asadha 15 holds special significance as Paddy Day and a festival for consuming traditional yogurt and chura (beaten rice). Yogurt, rich in protein, calcium, and Vitamin B-12, is known to strengthen the digestive system and immune defenses.
Despite the recent surge in the popularity of artificial beverages, the association emphasized the importance of revitalizing traditional dairy products like mohi and yogurt, which provide natural cooling and health benefits.
The association organized a program on Thursday to share these initiatives.President Pralhad Dahal highlighted that the celebration of Asadha 15 would feature the theme: "Taste of Yogurt-Chura, Indigenous Production: Honoring Farmers and Entrepreneurs, Prosperous Nepal."
He urged all Nepali citizens to increase their consumption of local dairy products and prioritize the hard work of Nepali farmers.
Dahal also noted that the high demand for yogurt on Asadha 15 would provide direct economic benefits to dairy farmers, cooperatives, and entrepreneurs. While contributing positively to the national economy, he acknowledged ongoing challenges such as rising production costs, market management issues, and ensuring timely payments to farmers.
