Bishnu Poudel Taken to Special Court for Extension of Time

Jun 29, Kathmandu - Bishnu Poudel, former Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and UML Vice Chair, was brought before the special court today to seek an extension of his custody.

Poudel was initially arrested in Surkhet on Asadha 8 under necessary arrest warrants related to charges of money laundering and was subsequently brought to Kathmandu. The Money Laundering Department had requested a 20-day detention period for him.

Earlier, on Asadha 9, Poudel was granted a 7-day extension for investigation.

Meanwhile, Poudel’s wife, Domaya Poudel, has filed a writ petition claiming her husband is being unlawfully detained. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case tomorrow, with a second hearing expected. An earlier order by Justice Shrikant Poudel’s bench had issued a show-cause notice, questioning the legality of his detention.
