Journey of Hope and Resilience: 'Gaunthali' Trailer Unveiled, Promises Heartfelt Rural Story

Jul 03, Kathmandu - The emotionally charged trailer of the upcoming Nepali film Gaunthali has been released, ahead of its release on Shrawan 1. The film, centered around social and familial themes, offers a poignant glimpse into the struggles and aspirations of a young woman fighting societal pressures.

The 3-minute and 37-second trailer, made available on YouTube this Friday, highlights the journey of a determined young girl committed to education and her dreams. Against the backdrop of traditional beliefs, social norms, and gender discrimination, the trailer explores her fight to overcome obstacles, including challenges faced after marrying a young man affected by autism, and the emotional upheavals that follow.

It also sheds light on issues faced by women when they lack support from their own gender, and how societal perceptions influence individual lives. Set in a rural environment, the film appears to deliver messages of education, self-empowerment, family responsibilities, and social awareness.

Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Gaunthali features Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka in lead roles, with a talented supporting cast including Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Luniha Tuladhar, Ravindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sita Devi Timalsina, Lakshmi Nath Timalsina, and Rajendra Nepali. Young actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also make their appearances.

The story, penned by Dr. Bhola Rijal with screenplay and dialogues by Rijal, Nischal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire, promises a compelling emotional journey. The film is produced under the banners of Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, with Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal serving as producers. Sarla Rijal is the executive producer.

Music for the film is composed by Shambhujit Basokta, Thaneshwor Gautam, and Prashant Siwakoti, with background score by Alis Karki. Hari Humagai handled cinematography, and Milan Shrestha was responsible for editing. The trailer was crafted by Sahel Khan.

Interestingly, Dr. Bhola Rijal had previously directed a film titled Gaunthali over two decades ago, which is considered Nepal’s first ‘Giti Film’ (musical film). The current version marks his son, Dr. Kapil Rijal, as the director, reviving the name with a new story.

The film is set to be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment, and FD Company, with OSR Digital as its digital partner. Fans can look forward to a heartfelt rural story that celebrates resilience, hope, and social change.
