Jul 10, Kathmandu - The Foreign Employment Welfare Information System under the Foreign Employment Board has released details of scholarships awarded to the children of deceased or disabled migrant workers for the fiscal year 2082/83. According to the data, a total of 3,363 students across the country have received scholarships so far.
Among the recipients, 1,781 are male students and 1,582 are female students. Regional distribution shows Lumini Province has the highest number of scholarship recipients with 778 students. Following that, Koshi Province has 737 students, Madhesh Province 713, and Gandaki Province 531 students.
Bagmati Province has 381 students benefiting from the scholarship program, while Karnali and Sudurpashchim Provinces have comparatively fewer recipients, with 138 and 85 students respectively. The scholarships are awarded based on the applications received and the fulfillment of required documentation standards, as determined by the Board.
The program aims to provide financial aid for the education of children of migrant workers who have died or become disabled. The Board reports that the number of scholarship recipients is expected to increase as applications continue to be processed under the provisions of the Foreign Employment Act 2064.
