Jul 13, Kathmandu - According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, the monsoon forecast department, various parts of Nepal are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The department states that the influence of monsoon currently persists across the country, with the low-pressure monsoon trough positioned slightly above its average location near the Terai region of Nepal.
Most parts of the country are experiencing widespread cloud cover today.
Regions such as Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces are seeing light to moderate rainfall in some areas, with parts of Madhes and Sudurpashchim provinces experiencing similar conditions.
This afternoon, widespread cloud cover is expected in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, while generally cloudy conditions are forecasted for Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
There is a possibility of moderate rainfall and hailstorms, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in some parts of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Similarly, many hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, along with parts of Madhes, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and hail.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted in some parts of the mountainous terrains of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and in a few areas of the Terai regions of Madhesh, with potential for extreme heavy rainfall in certain locations.
Tonight, the majority of regions including Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to remain cloudy, with similar conditions prevailing in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
There is a possibility of moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in many mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, as well as in some parts of the Terai regions.
The department has warned that the active monsoon is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of floods, landslides, and other natural disasters. Precautionary measures are strongly advised to prevent damage and ensure safety.
Furthermore, such weather conditions are expected to impact daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and transportation sectors, including roads and air travel.
