Jul 20, Kathmandu - Tensions flared on the opening day of the Indian Parliament’s monsoon session as security forces dispersed thousands of supporters of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’ attempting to march towards the Parliament building to protest irregularities in the NEET medical entrance examination. Tear gas and baton charges were used to disperse the protesters.

Despite police restrictions, a large number of youths gathered at Jantar Mantar demanding an investigation into NEET exam fraud and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Clashes ensued when protesters tried to break through police barricades, resulting in minor injuries among some demonstrators and police officials.

Mobile internet services were shut down in parts of central Delhi to control the situation. Meanwhile, the CJP urged supporters to remain calm and emphasized that victory can only be achieved through peace and patience.

Disruption at Major Metro Stations
The protest led to the closure of five busy Delhi Metro stations — Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Sarojini Nagar — causing inconvenience to hundreds of commuters, some of whom had to take longer routes to reach their destinations. Notably, Rajiv Chowk, Delhi’s busiest interchange station, witnessed heavy crowds amid the chaos.
