Jul 27, Kathmandu - In a landmark ruling, a South Korean court has convicted former President Yoon Suk Yeol of making false statements during the 2022 presidential election campaign, sentencing him to 18 months in prison. The court has suspended the sentence for three years.

If the verdict is upheld upon appeal, Yun's People Power Party may be required to refund campaign expenses provided by the government. The court emphasized that providing incorrect information during elections can significantly influence voters' decisions.

Yun has denied the charges and announced plans to appeal the decision. Currently, he is also facing other criminal cases, including charges related to inciting rebellion over the declaration of martial law.
