Jul 30, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has announced a comprehensive plan to implement long-term reforms to enhance trust, safety, and accountability in Nepal’s healthcare services. Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy towards attacks on doctors and health institutions, the ministry is taking urgent steps to build a safe, organized, and reliable healthcare system.

Following the recent incident at Narayani Hospital, the ministry emphasized that it will not limit its response to legal actions alone but will focus on preventing similar occurrences in the future. The ministry is also working on updating laws related to the safety of healthcare workers and institutions, with input from all stakeholders to ensure effective legal and policy reforms.

In addition, efforts are underway to centralize administrative structures scattered across various locations to improve coordination and service delivery. This move comes after the main building of the ministry on Ramshahpath was completely destroyed by fire; since then, services have been provided from temporary facilities.

Recently, the ministry has managed its administrative functions from the second and third floors of the building housing the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration. Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota has also been relocated to this building, with the secretary’s new office established on the top floor of the same premises as the minister’s secretariat.

All related divisions and departments will be gradually transferred to this unified location, aiming to enhance internal coordination, decision-making, and overall service efficiency. The consolidation of administrative units into a single building is expected to streamline operations and improve service quality across the board.
