Aug 01, Kathmandu - In the wake of recent ethnic violence in Kaptanagar, Sunsari, which has heightened tensions across various regions of Nepal, a peace rally was organized in Harivan to promote harmony and calm.

The rally, hosted by Hariwan Municipality on Friday morning, circled through the town and saw active participation from children sheltered in conflict-affected homes, district officials, police leaders, former ministers, current parliamentarians, representatives from various political parties, and other local stakeholders.

According to Arati Lama, a central member of the CPN (UML), who participated in the rally, children affected directly by recent conflicts expressed their desire to avoid becoming victims of further violence. They appealed to all parties to take responsibility in fostering peace, mutual understanding, and coexistence within society.

Following the ethnic violence in Kaptanagar that resulted in loss of life and protests in several districts, security concerns have prompted the Nepal Police headquarters to implement special security measures. A dedicated security team, led by 15 senior police officials including three Additional Inspectors General (AIG), Deputy Inspectors General (DIG), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP), and Superintendents of Police (SP), has been deployed to ensure safety and stability.

Through the rally, participants called for the preservation of social harmony, rejection of violence, and the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and tolerance. Authorities emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining peace and social cohesion across the nation.
