Aug 01, Kathmandu - Renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Puri, popularly known as ‘Nimsdai,’ has tragically lost his life in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, according to his expedition team. The team also confirmed the deaths of his trusted climbing companions, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yuktaa) and Nima Sherpa, in the same incident.
In a heartfelt statement, the team revealed that based on confirmed reports following the avalanche, all three climbers had succumbed to the disaster. The incident marks the loss of an extraordinary climber, inspiring leader, and daring personality who motivated millions worldwide through his courage, humility, and unwavering self-confidence.
The statement highlighted Nimsdai’s significant contributions through various organizations he founded, including Elite Expedition, Nimsdai Foundation, Skydive Nimsdai, and Nimsdai Store. His legacy, the team expressed, will serve as an enduring source of inspiration for future generations.
Expressing deep sorrow, the team extended heartfelt condolences to Nimsa’s family, relatives, and well-wishers. They also thanked all search and rescue personnel involved and requested everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Last contact with the team was made on Thursday morning, just before a powerful avalanche struck the area in the evening. Tracking data from the climbers’ devices indicates they were swept hundreds of meters down the slope by the snowmass.
