Aug 02, Kathmandu - The body of world-famous Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nims Dai) was recovered after being caught in an avalanche on Brod Peak in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan.

Nirmal Purja, who went missing during an ascent, was found dead on Saturday, following an avalanche that occurred on Thursday.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), a leading organization for mountaineering in Pakistan, his body was retrieved on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. The body was found at an altitude of 5,700 meters and is now being prepared to be transported to the Japanese Camp.

The BBC reported that three other bodies were also found near Nirmal Purja’s remains. Authorities have yet to identify the other victims among the ten mountaineers who perished in the disaster.

The Pakistani police have described the rescue operation as extremely challenging due to the difficult terrain, high risk of avalanches, and steep cliffs.

Due to unfavorable weather, helicopter rescue efforts were hampered. An eight-member rescue team from Pakistan and Nepal had attempted to reach Camp 1 before 9 a.m. Sunday to retrieve the bodies, according to Pakistan's online news portal, Dawn.
