Aug 04, Kathmandu - Koshi Province's political landscape is witnessing intense deliberations over the possible replacement of the Chief Minister. A crucial meeting took place between UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Koši Province officials to discuss the leadership change amid ongoing disagreements.

Following disagreements over appointing a new Chief Minister, party leaders agreed to hold discussions with the party president to reach a consensus. Accordingly, Koshi Province officials traveled to Kathmandu for talks with UML Chairman Oli.

Sources reveal that Oli emphasized the need to change the provincial leadership given the current circumstances. After meetings with Koši officials, the Chief Minister of Koši Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, also met with party President Oli. It is expected that a decision regarding Karki’s resignation will be finalized after this meeting.

Currently, the UML-led government in Koshi Province is headed by Hikmat Kumar Karki. The party's agreement with the Nepali Communist Party includes a three-point plan for UML to take the leadership role in the province.

Despite Karki's position as UML’s Chief Minister, Oli reportedly prefers Tilak Kumar Menyangwo to assume the role. Karki assumed office under Article 168(5) of the Constitution but has yet to resign, complicating efforts to reorganize the government.

With Karki refusing to step down, internal uncertainties persist within UML regarding how to proceed with government reformation in Koshi Province.
