Police Bust Illegal Online Betting and Cryptocurrency Dealings in Kathmandu

Aug 08, Kathmandu - Authorities have apprehended three individuals involved in illegal online betting and cryptocurrency transactions from a street in Baneshwor, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10.

A police team from the Kathmandu District Police Office identified the suspects during a raid and found them in suspicious circumstances. The suspects are identified as 30-year-old Nabin Poudel, originally from Banganga Municipality-6, Kapilvastu, currently residing in Baneshwor; 19-year-old Rahul Belbase; and 28-year-old Rabin Belbase.

According to police reports, the suspects facilitated betting worth over NPR 2,06,000 through the "1xBet" application. They were also found to be engaged in the illegal trade of virtual currency amounting to approximately USD 79,068.65.

From their possession, police seized USD 1,501.32 in cash and five mobile phones. Investigations are ongoing, with the suspects being held under custody. They are facing charges related to illegal betting and cryptocurrency dealings, which are prohibited by law. The Kathmandu District Court has granted a five-day extension for further investigation.
