Aug 08, Kathmandu - In order to reduce the risk of rabies transmission from stray and unowned dogs to humans, the Gaur municipality has initiated a free anti-rabies vaccination campaign for dogs.

The campaign, led by social activists and carried out in collaboration with veterinary professionals, saw the vaccination of 30 stray dogs on its first day. The veterinary team captured stray dogs roaming various neighborhoods of the town to administer the vaccines.

According to the campaign organizers, the vaccination process will continue gradually, covering more stray dogs in the area. The initiative aims to minimize the threat of rabies, which can be transmitted to humans through dog bites, by vaccinating dogs in a timely manner.

Jitendra Das, a local resident, emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “Rabies from dog bites poses a serious health risk to people. Vaccinating dogs is crucial for community safety.”

Apart from safeguarding animal health, the campaign also aims to raise awareness among residents regarding rabies prevention. Santosh Poudel, a social activist and educationist from Gaur, expressed his commitment to the cause, highlighting that this is the first time such an initiative has been undertaken in the town.

“Our goal is to protect both dog health and human lives from rabies,” Poudel said. He extended thanks to all supporters and participants, assuring continued efforts in future campaigns.

The vaccination drive is being organized under the sponsorship of social activist Poudel and in cooperation with Dr. Subhash Animal Hospital and Research Center Pvt. Ltd., Gaur, Rautahat. The initiative also aims to educate the public about the importance of regular rabies vaccinations for pet dogs to prevent outbreaks.

With increasing concern over stray dog management and animal health, this campaign is expected to contribute significantly to community awareness about responsible dog ownership and rabies prevention in Gaur.
