Aug 09, Kathmandu - Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation Mahabir Pun has highlighted the government’s focus on research, innovation, and invention as key drivers for the country’s prosperity. Speaking at an interactive session titled ‘The Role of Local Representatives in Prosperous Magar’ organized by Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality Society in Kathmandu, Minister Pun stressed the importance of fostering an environment conducive to domestic production of essential tools, equipment, and materials through increased investment in research.

According to Minister Pun, the government aims to reduce imports by linking research and innovation directly to production and employment opportunities. He also emphasized the need to produce adequate skilled manpower and eliminate the necessity for qualified individuals to seek employment abroad.

The event brought together local representatives from Dhaulagiri, Malika, and Annapurna rural municipalities of Magar, along with residents of Magar living in Kathmandu, to discuss the district’s social and economic development.

Minister Pun suggested that modernization of agriculture, hydropower, tourism, and livestock sectors could serve as primary pillars for Magar’s prosperity. He advocated for the maximum utilization of local resources and potential to create employment opportunities within the district.

Addressing social issues, Minister Pun called for the proper organization of the Mela Jatra festival in Magar, citing concerns over its negative impact on the education of teenagers due to repeated celebrations. “Frequent festivals in every neighborhood are adversely affecting the studies of adolescents,” he remarked. “Ending the practice of lavishly sponsoring festivals from abroad and holding week-long fairs could significantly improve education and social development in Magar.”

Furthermore, Minister Pun announced that two new trekking routes would be operationalized in Magar this year. These include the route connecting Mudi via Ghurja from Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality to Dhorpatan via Jaljala, and the trail from Dovar through Sowang Dhuri to Raghuganga Rural Municipality’s Chimkhola. He also mentioned that road projects, including the Faparkhet section of the Beni-Darbung road and the Sirowari landslide control work under the Beni-Jomsom road, would commence soon after the monsoon season.

Minister Pun reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to prioritize strategic road development projects in Magar, aiming to boost connectivity and regional development.
