Former US President Donald Trump Warns FIFA Against Removing Gianni Infantino: "It Would Be a Grave Mistake"

Aug 11, Kathmandu - Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning against the potential removal of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, describing it as a "terrible mistake."

This statement comes in response to an open letter issued by UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which accused Infantino of betraying trust through the canceled FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal, alleging deception and breach of confidence.

The FFE plan aimed to establish a new company to manage commercial and ticket sales rights for FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup. The proposal also included selling a 21% stake of this new company to private investors.

Since the plan was made public on July 28, Trump has publicly supported Infantino for the first time. He stated on social media, “Any attempt by FIFA to remove President Gianni Infantino would be a terrible mistake.”

He further praised Infantino, saying, “He is excellent. Under his leadership, the most successful World Cup has been organized so far—up to four times more successful. If he is removed, the World Cup will not be as successful or profitable again.”
