Aug 11, Kathmandu - Harka Raj Rai, President of the Shram Sanskriti Party and Member of Parliament, has demanded the enactment of a law that would impose "korra" (a traditional punishment) on criminals. Speaking during the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Rai criticized the government for its perceived weakness, which he believes has led to an increase in crime.

"Let's not just talk about 'Tero-Mero' (a Nepali phrase meaning 'yours and mine'), but instead, let's punish the delinquents with 'korra.' Let's make a law for that. This is the place to create such laws," Rai asserted. "Bringing in love, investigation, and interrogation alone won't curb crime. We need to eliminate this corruption at its root, and I demand this be done."

However, Rai's remarks drew criticism from Congress MP Indira Rana. She called for Rai's statement to be removed from the parliamentary record, saying, "I also advocate for laws that prevent torture. I have fought for this for years. It is inappropriate to use words like 'korra'—whether for criminals or others—in this honorable house. These words need to be corrected. I request that 'korra' be removed from the parliamentary record."

The Speaker of the House, Dol Prasad Aryal, did not issue any ruling on the matter. Following this, he allowed MP Bharat Giri to speak.
