Government Declares Martyrs of Sunsari and Siraha Incidents

Aug 11, Kathmandu - The government has decided to declare four individuals as martyrs in connection with the incidents in Sunsari and Siraha districts.

During the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokhrel, also the government spokesperson, announced the decision to honor them as martyrs.

According to him, Om Prakash Mehta, Jay Prakash Mehta, Ravindra Kumar Mehta, and Ganesh Kumar Yadav of Siraha have been posthumously declared martyrs.

The fatalities occurred during clashes between Hindu and Muslim groups in Kaptanganj, Sunsari, where police opened fire, resulting in three deaths, and in Gol Bazar, Siraha, where one person was killed, totaling four deaths.

Relatives of the deceased and Madhesi parties had also demanded that the victims be officially recognized as martyrs.
