Two Nepal Airlines Employees Detained at Airport for Carrying Excess Cash Before Malaysia Trip

Aug 17, Kathmandu - ​​​​​​​Two employees of Nepal Airlines were detained at Tribhuvan International Airport while preparing to depart for Malaysia, after authorities discovered they were carrying amounts exceeding permitted limits.

The detained employees are identified as 54-year-old Janani Bajracharya from Gongbu, Kathmandu, and 35-year-old Mamta Pande from Gorkha Municipality. Both are cabin crew members (air hostesses). During a search, Bajracharya was found to be carrying USD 4,300, while Pande had USD 4,200.

According to Airport Security Police spokesperson SP Rajkumar Silwal, the officials detained them after noticing they were carrying more money than the allowed limit per individual, ahead of their scheduled flight with Nepal Airlines to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night.

The two employees have been handed over to the Asset Laundering Investigation Department for further investigation.
