EU Ambassador Bids Farewell to Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Discusses Future Collaboration on Himalayas, Migration, and Culture

Aug 18, Kathmandu - The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, paid a farewell visit to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, discussing bilateral relations, mutual interests, and future collaboration.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, both officials exchanged views on strengthening Nepal-EU ties and explored areas of cooperation, including the Himalayas and water resource management.

Ambassador Lorenzo appreciated the ministry's proactive and responsible support, expressing gratitude for Nepal's excellent relations with the EU. She conveyed the EU's interest in collaborating with Nepal on Himalayan and water-related issues.

Foreign Minister Khanal highlighted that Himalayan issues remain a priority for Nepal and announced plans to organize the second Sagarmatha Dialogue next year. He also welcomed the EU’s plans to work with Nepal on safe, organized, and dignified migration, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting the Nepali diaspora abroad.

The discussions also covered Nepal’s progress towards graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category. Following Nepal's detailed action plan, the EU assured support for the country’s development goals.

Cultural exchange and the promotion of Nepali arts and heritage were also topics of discussion. Ambassador Lorenzo requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ assistance for upcoming Nepali art exhibitions, to which Minister Khanal reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to cultural preservation and promotion.

The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation for ongoing cooperation and a shared desire to enhance Nepal-EU relations in various domains.
