Aug 20, Kathmandu - The United Nations has reported that nearly 40,000 Palestinians in the South West Bank have been displaced due to Israeli military operations, with restrictions preventing them from accessing essential needs and services. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), roads in Hebron’s Adh Dhahiriya area have been blocked, and snipers have been stationed on rooftops.
Reports also indicate that around seven Palestinian homes have been used as interrogation centers, with many people detained. The UN highlighted that the ongoing curfew has hindered residents from obtaining food, essential supplies, accessing services, and going to work.
The UN has urged all parties to conduct security operations respecting civilian safety, dignity, and international laws. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed serious concern over reports of a new Israeli settlement outpost being established in the West Bank, as stated by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric.
Guterres has called on Israel to refrain from such activities. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs also reports ongoing Israeli military activities in Gaza, including an airstrike on Gaza City’s port on Tuesday that reportedly resulted in at least seven deaths. The incident has further endangered civilian safety, health, and access to humanitarian aid.
