Aug 24, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress MP Ain Bahadur Mahar has urged the government to take strict action against those responsible for a tragic road accident in Kailali that resulted in the death of a woman.
During Monday's House of Representatives session, MP Mahar recounted the incident that took place on Saturday evening at around 4:45 PM near Godawari Municipality-2 in Kailali. He stated that a Mahakali Transport vehicle hit Sinki Bohara from Mast Rural Municipality-6, Bajhang. According to Mahar, Bohara was initially injured and was being backed up by the vehicle when it struck her again, leading to her death at the scene.
Following the incident, as Bohara’s family gathered to protest at the site, police reportedly forcefully removed her body instead of taking legal action against the vehicle. Mahar alleged that police used batons, injuring Bohara’s husband in the process.
The MP further mentioned that during the protests, police resorted to baton charges, injuring several individuals, some of whom have been admitted to hospitals. The injuries include head trauma sustained during the police action.
Mahar emphasized the need for an impartial investigation into the incident and demanded strict punishment for those found responsible. He also called on the government to address ongoing negligence, irresponsibility, and chaos in the public transportation sector, urging serious measures to control such issues.
