Aug 24, Kathmandu - Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe is currently at the center of a social media storm in India. Known for his strict action against restaurants, hotels, and food businesses violating food safety and hygiene standards, Mundhe has gained popularity as the "Viral Officer" across social platforms.

Since taking charge of Maharashtra's Food Safety Department in May, Mundhe has conducted over 3,000 inspections and raid operations in Mumbai. During these drives, multiple establishments, including four Domino's outlets and one Pizza Hut outlet, along with various restaurants and food vendors, have had their permits suspended. His oversight extends to cricket clubs, hotels, renowned restaurants, and street food stalls.

The crackdown has exposed unsanitary kitchens, infested food, expired ingredients, and unhygienic food preparation practices, sparking widespread discussion on social media. While some business owners have criticized his strict approach, Mundhe has received overwhelming support from the general public. Despite legal challenges from some businesses, he remains committed to enforcing food safety standards, emphasizing it as his duty to protect public health.
