Aug 25, Kathmandu - An 11-year-old boy from Gamhariya, Bhagwanpur Rural Municipality-2, Siharah, tragically passed away after a snakebite on Monday evening. The young boy, Priyanshu Bhagat, was sleeping at home when he was bitten by a snake and succumbed during treatment.

According to family reports, Priyanshu and his 8-year-old brother, Divyanshu Bhagat, were bitten by a snake around 10 PM on the night of Bhadra 3 (August 19). Priyanshu was bitten on the ear, while Divyanshu was bitten on the leg.

Immediately after the incident, both children were rushed to Ramkumar-Sharda Umaprasad Murarka Regional Hospital in Lahan for treatment. However, the hospital reportedly lacked the necessary antivenom and referred them to Biratnagar for further care. The hospital later confirmed that the children were sent to Biratnagar with antivenom.

As Priyanshu’s condition worsened in Biratnagar, he passed away at around 6 PM on Monday evening. His brother Divyanshu's health, however, is reportedly improving, and he was brought back home from Biratnagar on the same day.

Priyanshu was studying in Class 8 at Balasundari Secondary School in Bhagwanpur, while Divyanshu was in Class 4. Their father is working as a laborer in Delhi, India, and only returned home on Bhadra 4 after hearing about the snakebite incident.

The family and local residents have demanded improved medical supplies, including sufficient antivenom and necessary treatments at district health facilities, to prevent such tragedies in the future. A social media campaign titled "Save the Brothers" was launched to raise funds for the treatment costs, which the family described as financially challenging.

Priyanshu was the eldest of Ashok Bhagat’s three children, with a younger brother Divyanshu and a 5-year-old sister, Anushka.
