China Issues Alert to Nepal Over Rising Flood Risks in Bhotekoshi River

Aug 27, Kathmandu - China has sent a warning to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging increased vigilance amid ongoing flood concerns.

According to the information received from China, satellite imagery and preliminary analysis indicate that a flood was triggered yesterday, Bhadra 10, at a location where the Bhotekoshi River is obstructed, forming a pond. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) stated that the pond is currently expanding and poses a risk of breaking through.

In light of this situation, authorities have advised residents of the lower Bhotekoshi River area, travelers, rescue personnel, and all related parties to exercise extreme caution. They are urged to stay in safe locations away from the riverbanks and other high-risk zones until further notice is issued.
