Aug 28, Kathmandu - Flood in Bhotekoshi has resulted in the tragic death of 469 people so far, with over 977 individuals still unaccounted for, officials reported. The Nepal Police confirmed ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in affected districts.

According to police data, the bodies of 12 people have been recovered in Rasuwa, 37 in Nuwakot, 33 in Dhading, 44 in Gorkha, 28 in Tanahun, 178 in Chitwan, 110 in Nawalparasi (East), and 27 in Nawalparasi (West). The authorities have begun excavation operations in Chitwan since this morning and will extend search efforts in Rasuwa today for missing persons and bodies.

Rescue operations have successfully evacuated a total of 1,545 individuals: 644 in Rasuwa, 898 in Nuwakot, and 3 in Dhading. Meanwhile, Kathmandu Valley hospitals are treating 60 injured persons, with 31 at TU Teaching Hospital, 20 at Trauma Center, and others receiving care at various medical facilities.

The flood has also caused significant personnel losses. So far, 44 members of the Nepal Army, 28 police personnel, 13 armed police force members, 15 customs officials from Timure, and 4 immigration officials are unaccounted for.

The disaster has severed contact with 2,381 people, including 644 foreigners—among them 178 Indian nationals and 127 Nepali citizens traveling abroad. Additionally, overseas Nepali nationals remain unreachable: 65 from the United States, 53 from Ukraine, 51 from Malaysia, 35 from Australia, and others from various countries including the UK, Canada, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Japan, and more.

The Nepal Police have also reported missing citizens from various countries such as Kazakhstan, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Serbia, Switzerland, Israel, the Philippines, Finland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Bulgaria.

Region-wise, the missing individuals include 132 from Koshi Province, 128 from Madhesh Province, 826 from Bagmati Province (excluding Rasuwa), 126 from Gandaki Province, 188 from Lumbini Province, 208 from Karnali Province, and 129 from Sudurpashchim Province.

Authorities continue their rescue and relief operations as the country grapples with the aftermath of this devastating natural disaster.
