Experts Urge Responsible Digital Communication Amid Rising Social Media Influence

Aug 28, Kathmandu - In an era where digital technology and social media are increasingly shaping public discourse, experts have emphasized the importance of thoughtful and responsible posting. Speaking at the ‘Media Talk Series–42’ organized by Saint Xavier’s College, Mahiti Ghar, journalists and rights activists highlighted the need for cautious engagement on digital platforms.

Senior journalist Chandra Kishore stressed the significance of embracing diverse perspectives for social harmony and coexistence. Citing nature’s example of various species coexisting peacefully, he said, “Nature does not nurture only a single species. Similarly, for social harmony, we must respect different ideas and voices.”

He urged young users to think carefully before reacting or sharing content on social media. Actor and producer Ravindrasingh Baniya emphasized the importance of multicultural understanding and compassion to grasp others’ stories, feelings, and sentiments. College Principal Professor Dr. Augustine Thomas, S.J. also highlighted the role of communication in raising awareness and fostering mutual understanding, asserting that media should always be based on truth and discernment.

According to Media Talk Series coordinator Chun Bahadur Gurung, the program has been continuously conducted over the past six years to discuss Nepal’s post-conflict context, transitional justice, and the role of media in promoting social harmony.
