Aug 30, Kathmandu - Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal announced that citizens stranded in China’s Kerung due to the Bhote Koshi floods will be brought back through alternative routes. 

Minister Khanal, who visited Dunge in Bidur Municipality-1 on Sunday to inspect the flood-affected areas, stated, “Preliminary information suggests that around one thousand Nepali nationals are stranded in Kerung. We will evacuate them via alternative routes.”

He also mentioned that Nepal has requested the Chinese authorities to open the Tatopani border crossing in Sindhupalchok and to utilize the Korla border crossing in Mustang to facilitate the movement of goods and people.

Regarding rescue efforts at a hydropower project where workers are trapped in a tunnel, Khanal clarified that foreign assistance is needed. “We have called in Chinese and Indian experts for rescue operations,” he said.

The Foreign Minister further added, “If necessary, assistance from other countries can also be sought. The international community has shown commitment to support us, and we will accept help as needed.”
