Sep 03, Kathmandu - The European Union (EU) has pledged to provide an additional 8.9 million Nepali Rupees (approximately 90 million NPR) in humanitarian assistance and relief supplies to communities affected by floods in Nepal. With this, the EU's total emergency financial aid to Nepal will reach 44.5 million NPR.

This new funding will support the disaster response efforts managed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), led by the Nepal Red Cross Society, through its Emergency Relief Fund (ERF).

According to an EU representative in Nepal, the campaign aims to provide emergency and temporary shelter, cash assistance, clean drinking water and sanitation, healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support, protection, and other essential aid to nearly 20,000 people from around 4,000 households in the Bagmati Province.

The devastating floods, which struck on August 10, caused significant loss of life and extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and vital services. In response, the EU has announced further aid to assist recovery efforts.

Additionally, more than 80 tons of relief supplies are scheduled to arrive in Nepal via an emergency cargo flight from Copenhagen later this week, the statement added.
