Sep 10, Kathmandu - Inmates at the Central Jail in Sundhara, Kathmandu, have donated relief funds to aid flood victims in Rasuwa.
During a program held at the prison on Thursday, representatives of the inmate community handed over NPR 551,000 to Chief District Officer (CDO) Ishwar Raj Poudel. The funds will be deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund through banking channels, as confirmed by CDO Poudel.
Poudel emphasized that the devastating floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and along the Trishuli River have caused a catastrophe comparable to a national disaster, requiring collective support from all sectors.
He also highlighted that inmates, though confined within legal boundaries, are fellow citizens of the nation and share a compassionate concern for those affected by the calamity. Despite being a monetary contribution, he described the act as immensely valuable, both humanly and emotionally, reflecting the inmates’ heartfelt empathy during this crisis.
