Sep 12, Kathmandu - Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj, a woman had to give birth on the street due to a lack of medical assistance. After the incident, six hospital staff members, including a doctor, two staff nurses, and three other employees, have been suspended from duty.

According to Acting Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Ranjit Kumar Jha, the hospital has not yet made the investigation report public and has suspended the staff pending findings. The disciplinary actions have affected Dr. Usha Dev, staff nurses Manisha Kumari Shah and Sajan Chaudhary, as well as office assistants, sweepers, and security guards.

However, criticism is mounting over the hospital administration for not taking immediate action against the person directly managing the situation, known as the “Gaine Incharge.” Multiple agencies, including the hospital, district administration, Ministry of Health, and Nepal Medical Council, are conducting separate investigations into the incident.

The incident came to light after a video showing 30-year-old Babita Kumari Paswan giving birth on the street went viral, revealing she was unable to afford the Rs. 1,200 blood test fee. The hospital administration has assured that those found guilty during the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
