Sep 12, Kathmandu - In response to potential health issues arising from the recent flooding of the Bhote Koshi River, the Nepal Police Hospital Maharajgunj has established a temporary Level-1 field hospital in Nuwakot. The move aims to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases following the flood.

The flood caused by the Trishuli River, which severed communication with Trishuli Hospital, prompted authorities to set up the hospital in Bidur, Nuwakot. The facility is equipped to provide 24-hour emergency services, outpatient and inpatient care, laboratory testing, and free medicines, according to Deputy Inspector General Damodar Paudel, who oversees the police hospital.

The initiative focuses on controlling infectious diseases that could spread among humans and livestock after the floodwaters recede. The flood washed away bridges, making it difficult for residents of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Trishuli to access medical services at Trishuli Hospital.

"Considering the health risks that may emerge after the flood, we have deployed expert medical staff and necessary equipment to offer free treatment and medication," said DIG Paudel. "The flood has made it challenging for residents to access healthcare, so we have established this field hospital in Bidur to ensure timely medical assistance with expert support."
