Sep 22, Kathmandu - Nisha Dangi, Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has called on the government to take immediate action in response to the Nepal Weather Service's forecast of heavy rainfall across various parts of the country from Ashwin 8 to 12. She emphasized the importance of shifting focus from relief and rescue efforts alone to proactive disaster preparedness.

During Tuesday's parliamentary session, MP Dangi stressed that past practices of only responding after disasters occur must end. Despite continuous warnings from weather forecasts and media outlets, she expressed concern over the government's silence and inaction.

“Given the early warning, the government should identify vulnerable settlements and roads, and prepare to move citizens to safe locations if necessary. I urge the authorities to keep rescue teams, bulldozers, ambulances, medicines, and relief supplies on standby,” she stated.

Furthermore, MP Dangi highlighted Nepal’s recurring natural calamities throughout the year and called for a clear disaster management policy and long-term strategic planning from the government.
