Sep 24, Kathmandu - A sleeper bus caught fire late Wednesday night, resulting in the deaths of nine passengers. Several others were injured in the blaze on the Yamuna Expressway near Jewar Airport in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The accident occurred around 12 a.m. when a bus traveling from Noida to Mahoba suddenly caught fire near Jewar Airport. The bus was reportedly carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers.

According to reports, some passengers managed to escape the burning vehicle by jumping out, but the fire spread rapidly, trapping others inside. The police confirmed that nine individuals succumbed to burns and smoke inhalation. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Passenger Sunil Kumar, in his complaint to the police, stated that some travelers had noticed a burning smell coming from the cabin and informed the driver and conductor. However, the driver did not stop the bus for an inspection. Moments later, a large flame was seen erupting from near the driver's seat.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are investigating the incident. The Jewar police station is conducting a detailed probe into the tragedy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that proper medical treatment and necessary support would be provided to the injured and affected families.
