Oct 03, Kathmandu - President Ram Chandra Poudel has said education must go beyond imparting knowledge and skills to develop citizens with ethics, discipline, creativity, cooperation, compassion and a sense of social responsibility.
Speaking about education’s role in developing people’s knowledge, judgment, character and sense of responsibility, Poudel said it should help students become aware of and accountable to their society, culture, history and nation.
Describing Nepal as a country rich in languages, cultures, traditions and ways of life, he said education should respect this diversity while fostering national unity, social harmony and coexistence among students.
“In today’s world, a key responsibility of education is to build citizens who possess ethics, discipline, creativity, cooperation, compassion and social responsibility, alongside knowledge and skills,” Poudel said.
He also stressed that, amid the rapid development of information technology, Nepal’s education system must develop a clear vision of the workforce the country will need in the future.
“Our education system must answer what kind of Nepal we want to build and what kind of human resources we will need for tomorrow,” he said.
