Former Pastor who Appeared on American Idol Gets Life in Prison

Oct 06, Kathmandu - Caleb Flynn, a former Ohio pastor who briefly appeared on American Idol, has been sentenced to life in prison.

Flynn, 40, was convicted last week of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn. The judge said Flynn had abused his Christian faith and showed no remorse for his actions.

Flynn tearfully apologized to his family before being sentenced. He called the birth of his two daughters “the greatest joy of my life.” But he maintained his innocence, saying, “I didn’t kill my wife, I’m not lying.”

Prosecutors say Flynn wanted to separate from his wife. He was in a relationship with Allegra Botner. Before the incident, he texted Botner, saying, “I choose you. I’m free. The trial will be tomorrow.”

Flynn’s fingerprints and DNA were found at the scene, and his equipment showed he was at the house. But Flynn has insisted he was asleep at the time of the incident.

Ashley's family members have called for a harsher sentence for Flynn. Her sister, Kayla Kitt, said Flynn's actions have shocked the family and church community.

Flynn, who appeared on American Idol in 2013 and failed to qualify for the Hollywood main competition, was found guilty on Monday of charges including murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
