Oct 13, Kathmandu - Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has launched an internal investigation into serious allegations reported against its House of Representatives member Khagendra Sunar. The party has instructed him not to attend formal events in his capacity as a public official until the inquiry is complete.
In a statement issued Tuesday, RSP General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya said the party was taking seriously reports, publicly released audio recordings and questions raised about Sunar. The allegations involve claims of threats and undue pressure against a woman, as well as suspicious financial transactions.
The claims have not been established, and the findings of an official investigation are still pending.
The party has directed its Central Disciplinary Commission to begin an immediate inquiry to establish the facts. It said the restriction on Sunar’s participation in official events is intended to protect the investigation and uphold standards of public office.
RSP said it has a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse of women, breaches of official conduct and criminal offences. It also pledged full cooperation with any independent, impartial and evidence-based investigation by state authorities.
Acharya said the party would take further action in line with the law and its statute after the state investigation and internal inquiry reach their conclusions. RSP added that no one who violates the law or official standards would receive political protection.
