Rajasthan’s “Snow Yard” Draws Tourists—But It’s Actually a Marble-Waste Dump

Nov 01, Kathmandu - A vast white landscape in Kishangarh, Rajasthan, may look like a snow-covered tourist destination, with white hills, a blue artificial lake and striking scenery. But the site is actually a dumping ground for waste from marble processing.

Locally known as the “Snow Yard,” the area covers about 300 acres in Ajmer district and attracts hundreds of visitors each day. Newlyweds come for pre-wedding photo shoots, while social media creators and filmmakers use the dramatic setting for reels, films and music videos.

Salim Shahzada, a businessman from Uttar Pradesh, visited with his family. They said the landscape reminded them of Kashmir when they first saw it. Shahzada said he knew marble-cutting waste was dumped there, but was largely unaware of its potential health and environmental impacts.
